SAVOUR THE END OF SUMMER:
A Yoga and Writing Retreat on Wolfe Island, Ontario
AUG 27-30, 2018
Looking for a sweet combination of relaxation and grounding as summer winds down?
Unwind into the final days of August with vigour and play—while heeding the call to anchor in and cultivate reflective practices to support you as the seasons shift and the autumn ‘new year’ arrives.
Join yoga teacher Joshua Lewis and author Trevor Corkum for a sumptuous four-day mid-week retreat. Together, we’ll engage in nourishing yoga practice, outdoor meditation and mindfulness activities, and structured writing time to help you tap into your innate creative spirit.
Daily meditation and yoga will be led by Joshua Lewis in his signature all-levels accessible and inclusive style. Long-time practitioners, as well as those with little or no experience, will find Joshua’s embodied and inspired teaching methodology to be approachable and profoundly impactful – calming and soothing for the body, mind and the heart. Classes will be offered in the Hatha tradition weaving a creative mixture of dynamic slow flow sequences with therapeutic modalities such as yin, self-massage ball rolling and guided meditation and visualization (yoga nidra).
Writing practice will be guided by Trevor Corkum, a widely published and awarded author whose specialized offerings focus on life writing and storytelling. Whether you are curious about writing, love to journal, have been working on a secret memoir, or have a specific fiction, poetry, or other projects in mind, this retreat will give you ample space to commit time, energy and focus to your writing practice. Guided activities will include responding to writing prompts, interactive storytelling activities, and the opportunity to complete a short piece through the week. No prior writing experience is necessary, and there will be no expectation that you share your work if you prefer to simply indulge in some quiet writing time. All writing activities are optional.
An essential element supporting these personal adventures is the shared experience of connecting with your deepest self while in the community of others doing the same. Everything about the Shanti experience is intentionally designed to drop you in to the sweetest and most sublime state—from the idyllic lakeside locale and private seclusion of Wolfe Island to the vibrantly fresh and flavourful meals, not to mention the various waterfront activities at your disposal (swim, sunbathe, canoe and kayak to your heart’s content!)—this retreat promises to be a time for self-care, renewal and enlivenment.
This is a time for YOU. A time to call in what you most need.
We promise you will be well taken care of and supported along the way.
So before the busyness of fall arrives, step outside of your every day and take advantage of the summer cottage experience that you have been longing for. We can’t wait to share it with you.

Location: Shanti Retreat Centre
A beautiful getaway in the heart of Ontario, Shanti Retreat is located on Wolfe Island, near Kingston, the gateway to the Thousand Islands.
Over the last 15 years, Wendy and Darin (along with an incredible team of inspiring yogis) have turned what was once a hunting and fishing lodge into one of the most sought out and perennially booked yoga retreat centres in the province. Shanti’s main lodge, cozy cabins and yoga yurt sit on an 11 acre property surrounded by gardens, green space and natural beauty—the sweeping views of the St. Lawrence are sure to soothe your soul, especially when accompanied by a sunrise meditation on the dock, sitting under the century-old weeping willows, or while taking in a stunning sunset from the outdoor dining patio.
Wolfe Island is a cycling and runner’s paradise with ample trails, and for those looking to feel the sand between their toes, Big Sandy Bay, a beautiful secluded beach is a short 15-minute car ride away.
Shanti offers a range of additional wellness options including massage, thai-yoga massage and reiki treatments. Further information about Shanti’s amenities can be found here.
*Although we highly encourage you to disconnect from your devices as much as possible during the retreat, wi-fi is available for those who require it.

This retreat will help you to intentionally slow down and take time to rejuvenate and consciously down-regulate your nervous system through meditation, breath-work, and yoga practice. One of the ways to integrate and embody this experience is to spend time working on your own writing. Whether it’s reflectively journaling or working on a concrete fiction, memoir, poetry, or creative nonfiction project, you’ll find plenty of support and structure at this retreat. We’ll integrate creative writing prompts, interactive storytelling, and focused writing time–all with a sense of play and openness. No prior writing experience necessary.
